Mouthguards

Do you play contact sports? The best way to protect your teeth from serious trauma is a custom made fitted mouth guard. At Icon Dental Group we offer a variety of colours and sizes to choose from using the recommendation ‘Playsafe mouthguards’. A mouthguard that is fitted correctly to your mouth will ensure adequate protection and can reduce the chances of significant damage. It is important to have your mouthguard reviewed at your 6 monthly checkup appointments to ensure it’s the perfect fit, as your teeth and jaw change as it develops into adult ages. You can also personalise your mouthguard with your name and/or phone number.

Mouthguards involves two visits. The first visit your Dentist or Oral Health Therapist will take impressions of your upper and lower jaw, a dental technician will then fabricate the mouthguard and return back to the Dentist for insertion. This is important that you return back to ensure the correct fit to prevent unnecessary trauma.

A hygienic carry case will also be provided to store your mouthguard to minimise the risk of losing it as well as hygiene instructions to keep it in tip top shape to last many years. Mouthguards will need to be replaced through teenage years as teeth and jaw development, however in adult years the mouthguard should last unless you have dental work that could impact the fit. If so it is important to take the mouthguard with you to these appointments so your dental clinician can possibly adjust accordingly.

If you play contact sport and have no mouthguard, haven’t had your mouthguard assessed, have had dental treatment completed since your mouthguard was made, please phone to book your appointment on 07 49392900 at Icon Dental Group and we can make/assess your mouthguard to ensure it is the best fit for you.
