Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride treatment is a remineralisation agent used to protect your teeth. Each patient is assessed in accordance to their dental health status and medical needs. Products used in dentistry contain the minerals, calcium and phosphate, which make up the bulk or natural tooth structures. Fluoride is also used for those who are at higher risk of dental decay and need that extra protection.

Products are absorbed into the tooth by replacing its lost mineral rather than only adhering to the outer surface being washed away. In some cases, where those who have high caries status and are at higher risk of tooth decay, fluoride treatment may be advised to be used or applied more frequently.
Those who may be advised to undertake more frequent fluoride treatment or use higher fluoride products at home are those who suffer from or experience;

  • Dry mouth
  • Age
  • Medical conditions
  • Medications
  • High sugar and acid consumption diet
  • Underdeveloped teeth that may not have formed correctly.

We apply fluoride treatments in a form of foam, varnish or gel using either a brush, tray or mouthwash. This treatment is much more concentrated than your daily products of water or toothpaste. They only take a few minutes to apply in a safe method. Knowing your full health history will ensure we cater the best fluoride treatment suitable for you.

Fluoride cannot remove decay, however, it can help stop decay penetrating deeper into the grooves of your teeth by creating a stronger outer surface to your teeth.
