Preventative Dentistry

We know that many common dental problems are avoidable with the right preventive dentistry.

Therefore, when you first visit Icon Dental, we assess not only your current oral health but other factors that can impact dental health.  These include your diet and oral hygiene routine, and we evaluate any general health issues that could affect the oral environment.

Your Custom Designed Preventive Dental Plan

Once we have this information, we devise your custom preventive dental care plan. The plan is designed to help you look after your dental health more effectively and includes treatments that can help protect your teeth and gums or will help to restore dental health.

Our services include dietary advice and advice about oral hygiene and preventive treatments such as mouthguards and fissure sealants. We also focus on periodontal care; strong and healthy gums are essential for oral and general health.

Dietary Advice

A good diet is important for dental health and provides your gums with essential vitamins and minerals needed to fight infection.

We might suggest reviewing your diet if you have signs of oral disease or cavities, and we can suggest some simple changes if necessary. Sometimes even changing the times you eat certain foods can make a difference.

Oral Hygiene

A good daily oral hygiene routine is key for removing harmful plaque and food debris from teeth. Most people clean their teeth automatically and are unaware they might be missing certain areas regularly.

Daily flossing is essential for removing food debris and plaque between teeth, where a toothbrush cannot reach.

We can show you the best, most effective brushing and flossing techniques, helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums more easily between oral hygiene appointments.

Gum Care

Every time you visit Icon Dental, we check your gum health carefully. Gum disease is a serious condition that can cause tooth loss and affect general health. By detecting this disease earlier, we can provide suitable treatment to reverse it entirely.

Treatments to Protect Teeth

The chewing surfaces of adult back teeth can often develop cavities as these surfaces are harder to clean thoroughly.

Fissure sealants are a preventive treatment that seals these surfaces with a thin resin layer, preventing harmful bacteria from creating cavities. Usually used to protect children’s adult back teeth, fissure sealants can be applied to an adult’s cavity-free teeth as a preventive measure.

If you love playing sports, we encourage you to talk to us about a custom-made mouthguard. Sporting injuries can damage or knock out teeth and can be costly to repair. Made from a tough thermoplastic material, our mouthguards offer the best protection against a blow to the mouth.
