Digital Diagnostics

When planning dental treatment, having the incorrect diagnostic equipment is the equivalent of driving a car blindfolded. At Icon Dental, we invest in the latest and best digital diagnostic equipment and protocols to ensure that you’re never misdiagnosed or receive unnecessary treatment. Along with the digital x-rays you would expect to find in a modern dental practice, we have the advantage of advanced diagnostic equipment including the following:

OPG

Cone Beam

Lateral Cephalogram

Endodontic Equipment

OPG

At Icon dental we use a Digital Orthopantomogram (OPG) as part of our diagnostic process. An OPG is a panoramic or wide view x-ray of the lower face, which displays all the teeth of the upper and lower jaw on a single digital image. It demonstrates the number, position and growth of all the teeth including those that have not yet surfaced or erupted. It is different from the small close up x-rays dentists take of individual teeth. An OPG can reveal problems with the jawbone and the joint which connects the jawbone to the head, called the Temporomandibular joint or TMJ. At Icon Dental we use an OPG to plan orthodontic treatment, assess wisdom teeth and for a general overview of the teeth and the bone which supports the teeth.
Cone Beam

The next level of Digital diagnostics is called a Cone Beam or to give it its full name, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CT). This is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental x-rays and OPG’s are not sufficient. At Icon Dental we use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone, all in a single scan. This type of diagnosis helps us plan treatments such as Dental Implants and Implant Retained Dentures such as the All-On-4 System.

Lateral
Cephalogram

Lateral Cephalogram (Lat Ceph) is an x-ray of the side of your face with very precise positioning. This is done so measurements can be taken to determine the current and future relationship of the top and bottom jaw (maxilla and mandible) and therefore assess the nature of your bite. At Icon Dental we use the Lat Ceph images to help us plan Orthodontic treatments.
Endodontic Equipment

At Icon Dental, we provide endodontic care and have the very latest in endodontic equipment which helps us provide treatment including root canal treatment, retreatment, microsurgery and dental trauma management.
